History Nine - Baroque to Modernity

This survey course introduces students to western art music and provides the vocabulary needed to discuss musical styles and topics. Students will learn to summarize stylistic traits of various historical eras, observe how composers interacted with society, and discover the overarching musical patterns and developments which have lead us to now. A substantial amount of new terminology and their definitions must be committed to memory. 

History Ten - Medieval to Classical

This survey course introduces students to the earliest notated examples of western art music and provides the vocabulary needed to discuss such musical styles and topics. Students will learn to summarize stylistic traits of various historical eras, observe how composers interacted with society, and discover the overarching musical patterns and developments which have lead us to now. A substantial amount of new terminology and their definitions must be committed to memory. 

ARCT History - Romantic to Modern

This survey course introduces students to contemporary western art music and 20th century stylistic trends. Students will be expected to understand concepts to such an extent that they are able to write a detailed essay about specific topics by memory on their ARCT exam using academic terminology.
